Do you air your apartment during frosts? Check how it affects your health

Winter Many people are afraid to open the windows for fear of the apartment cooling down. They don’t want to cause heat loss and pay higher heating bills.

Others ventilate the space intensively to freshen the air inside. They do it even during severe frosts, without fear of catching a cold. Which is the right thing to do? How does airing your apartment in winter affect your health?

Airing the apartment provides fresh air to the rooms, allowing the removal of impurities and excess moisture that appears as a result of, among others, cooking or washing. It also prevents development and mushrooms.

There are numerous benefits to airing, including health benefits. Dust, allergens and microorganisms are removed from the air. This is especially important for people suffering from various types of allergies and respiratory problems. Lack of air exchange may cause drying of the mucous membranes and more frequent respiratory infections.

Fresh air also helps you concentrate and even fall asleep peacefully. Cool air promotes deeper sleep, which means better regeneration and rest. It also oxygenates the body.

We should air the apartment regularly, regardless of the season. Even during the deepest frosts, air exchange is necessary, and the process itself may turn out to be even more effective. Frosty air is dry and contains little moisture – so it quickly reduces its level inside.

Experts even recommend airing the apartment several times a day, regardless of the outside temperature. Oxygen deficiency adversely affects the body and can cause headaches and fatigue. Thanks to ventilation, the air quality improves and the body is oxygenated.

It is also easier to maintain appropriate humidity inside, reducing the risk of mold and fungi growth, as well as unpleasant odors. Thanks to regular ventilation, the air in the house will not be too humid or too dry.

Airing the apartment in winter is necessary because for our health and comfort we should take care of air exchange. When it’s cold outside, you have to do it the right way.

Airing should be short and intense. It is worth opening the windows even wide, for about 4-10 minutes, depending on the temperature. In very frosty weather, just 2-3 minutes is enough to freshen the air significantly.

It is worth turning the lid off for about 5-10 minutes before airing . Their work does not make sense at such a moment, because the heat coming from them will escape through the open window anyway. It is best to unscrew them again a long time after the airing is finished.
