Official statement does not specify the alleged infractions
The Tunisian President, Kais Saied, summoned the European Union ambassador, Giuseppe Perrone, this Wednesday to “express a strong protest regarding the disrespect of diplomatic rules”, according to an official statement that does not specify the alleged infractions.
The Tunisian President also expressed to his interlocutor his rejection of the “recourse to practices outside the official framework recognized by diplomatic customs”.
On Monday, Perrone met with Noureddine Taboubi, head of the main Tunisian union, the UGTT — which recently threatened a general strike to obtain wage increases — and praised the organization’s “important role” “in promoting social dialogue and economic development” in Tunisia, according to a statement from the European delegation in Tunis.
