Hugo Motta prevents Ramagem from voting in the USA – 11/25/2025 – Brasília Hoje

The president of , (-PB), decided this Tuesday (25) to prohibit the deputy (-RJ) from participating and voting remotely (via cell phone) in the sessions. The parliamentarian, convicted in the coup plot process, was recording videos for social media to disguise himself.

Motta, however, indicated that he may not comply with a decision by the minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court), who also this Tuesday sent a letter to the Chamber for the president to declare the immediate loss of his parliamentary mandate.

Questioned by deputies, Motta stated that he will analyze the case and decide when he is actually informed of the decision. Allies point out that he must follow the same procedure adopted with deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) and send the process first for analysis by the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission).

Zambelli’s case has been awaiting a decision from the Chamber on the loss of his mandate since June 10th. Motta initially said he would declare the loss of office, but later changed his mind. “The plenary is the one who has the legitimacy of this House, it is the plenary that decides where this House goes and it is sovereign, it is above any of us”, he stated at the time.

Zambelli has been imprisoned in Italy, where she has citizenship, and has been out of office since then, with a substitute acting in her place in the Chamber. According to Motta’s allies, Ramagem’s case should follow the same procedure, but the decision on this will be made by the president of the Chamber.

Ramagem presented medical certificates to the Chamber to be able to vote remotely, but he has been living in the United States with his family for more than a month to avoid being arrested. Motta signed an act this Tuesday in which he corroborates the position of the General Secretariat of the Board of Directors of the Chamber and prohibits Ramagem from voting remotely, stating that this is only allowed outside the country on official missions.

On Saturday, Ramagem for the first time. “Today I am safe here, with the consent and knowledge of the American government,” he said this Saturday (22) in an interview with Conversa Timeline, a program led by blogger Allan dos Santos, also a fugitive from Brazilian justice since 2021.
