The start of the match seemed to conspire to put the team back in the fight for the title after Facundo Torres opened the scoring. But from the final minute of the first half until the last whistle, the team imposed itself, turned the match around with penalty goals and managed to win 3-2, in the 36th round of the season.

The defeat in Porto Alegre makes Palmeiras accumulate five matches without a win. The next appointment is precisely the Libertadores final, scheduled for Saturday, at 6 pm, in Lima.

In the Brasileirão, Palmeiras is stuck at 70 points and sees Flamengo reach 75, leaving six points up for grabs. Grêmio is in the fight for eighth place, which could go to the Libertadores if Cruzeiro or Fluminense win the Copa do Brasil. The tricolor team has 46 points and is in 10th place.

Palmeiras started the match with a more purposeful attitude. The team was assembled betting on the speed of its attackers. Grêmio reached the offensive sector more sporadically, but was also in danger.

The visitors were better on the field and showing good movement. In a play worked on the left side, at 24, Ramón Sosa crossed just enough for Facundo Torres to head in and put Palmeiras ahead.

With the score unfavorable, Grêmio went on the attack. Some chances were created and forced Marcelo Lomba to make saves. At the end of the first half, Marcos Rocha took a throw-in towards the penalty area, the ball was cleared and Amuzu hit it first time to tie the match, at 48.

After half-time, Grêmio decided to intensify their attack and replaced Willian in Edenílson’s place.

Aníbal Moreno once again donned the role of the season’s villain. In a cross into the area, the Argentine committed a foul inside the area. The VAR recommended the review, and the referee awarded the maximum penalty. At 16, the Porto Alegre team took the lead on the scoreboard following a kick converted by Carlos Vinícius, who had conceded the penalty.

At 36, another penalty for Grêmio. This time, Giay committed a foul on Arthur inside the area. The VAR advised Giay to receive red for the move, even with a lack of intensity for that purpose. Willian hit and made the third, at 39.

In extra time, Palmeiras scored with a header from Benedetti, but the reaction stopped there.
