The first step is to choose good quality products with Inmetro certification. It is essential to check all safety and consumption information on the packaging, such as power indications, voltage references and instructions for use.

According to Energisa Acre’s safety coordinator, Gabriella Mendes, electrical equipment should not be close to flammable materials such as paper, cardboard, fabric, Styrofoam, wood or plastic. It also highlights the condition of the decorations, if you wish to reuse them from previous years.

“If the idea is to use decorations purchased in previous years, it is essential to check if there are any dry, peeled or broken wires. If there are, you need to discard them and purchase new ones. Another important issue is to avoid connecting several pieces of equipment to the same socket using the ‘T’, as there may be an overload of energy or heating”, warns Gabriella.

The safety guidelines for installing luminous fixtures also apply to external areas: do not make direct connections, do not climb poles, and do not use wires or metal wires near the electricity network.

Also according to the coordinator, the lights must be installed in such a way that there is no possibility of people coming into contact with the electrical wiring, as, when exposed to the sun, rain and wind, they can suffer wear and tear and increase the risk of accidents. It is worth remembering that electrical services must always be carried out by trained professionals.

In addition to safety precautions, it is important to know how to save energy during this Christmas period to avoid surprises on your energy bill. Therefore, the distributor reinforces the tips for conscious consumption:

  • Always give preference to LED products – which are more economical;

  • Pay attention to the power, as the longer it is used, the greater the energy consumption;

  • Check the electrical installation if you are going to use a lot of lights;

  • Set times to turn on and off the luminous decorations.

In cases of an incident involving the power grid, register through the service channels:
