Ukrainian drones were supposed to hit a factory with military production: A fire broke out!

On Wednesday night, the Ukrainian army launched a drone attack in the Chuvash Republic in the east of the European part of the Russian Federation. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Army, as well as local authorities, informed about it, the British station BBC reported. The factory of the military-industrial complex of the joint-stock company VNIIR-Progress in the city of Čeboksary, which is the capital of the republic, was hit.

  • The Ukrainian army carried out a drone attack on a facility in Chuvashia.
  • A factory producing navigation and military components was said to have been hit.
  • The area faced massive attacks, two apartment buildings were damaged.
  • The drone attack was supposed to cause a fire in the factory area.
  • The factory has been the target of drone attacks twice before.

The BBC specified that the affected factory manufactures navigation devices and components for cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, as well as Kometa-type antennas used in Šáhid drones and in Iskander-M and Kalibr missile systems. This type of antenna allows Russian drones to communicate even in an environment where they face electronic warfare systems.

According to the Ukrainian military, after the drones hit the designated target, a fire broke out in the factory premises. The top official of the Chuvash Republic, Oleg Nikolayev, confirmed that Cheboksary faced a “massive attack” by Ukrainian drones. He informed that two apartment buildings were damaged and that two people were injured. He did not inform about the attack on the factory.

International sanctions were imposed on the VNIIR-Progress factory for its participation in Russia’s war aggression against Ukraine. The station Rádio Sloboda (RFE/RL) reported that the VNIIR-Progress campus was hit by Ukrainian drones twice this year – in June and July.
