Governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, criticizes the management of the federal government and defends the unity of the right, during the 1st edition of the UBS Wealth Management Latam Summit

The governor of , (Republicans), criticized, this Wednesday (26), the management of the federal government and defended the union of the right during his participation in the 1st edition of the UBS Wealth Management Latam Summit. The event, held at the Rosewood Hotel, in the capital of São Paulo, brought together investors and business leaders.

In his speech, Tarcísio assessed the current political and economic scenarios. For the governor, the country is following a wrong path under the administration of the Workers’ Party. “This group is disgracing the country,” he stated. Despite the criticism, the head of the state Executive demonstrated confidence in a reversal of the political situation: “You can see that Brazil is in the wrong direction, but that’s easy to do. I have no doubt, let’s free Brazil from PT“.

Role of the right and national elections

Asked if he intends to take the São Paulo management model to the federal level — an allusion to a possible candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic —, Tarcísio avoided officially launching himself, but reinforced his commitment to the conservative camp.

“Each one has a mission. I want to fulfill a mission well. It doesn’t matter in what role. I don’t need to be a protagonist”, he declared. The governor emphasized that the feeling of “saving and recovering Brazil” is shared by other right-wing governors, regardless of who leads the majority ticket. “My feeling is that of all of you. I want to leave a legacy. I don’t want to leave this PT country. Brazil is much bigger than that”, he added.

Defense of Jair Bolsonaro

During the event, Tarcísio also commented on the situation of the former president, whom he called a friend. The governor revealed that he maintains constant dialogue with the Bolsonaro family and that he continues to talk to the former president’s children, senator Flávio and councilor Carlos.

When talking about Bolsonaro’s arrest, Tarcísio cited humanitarian and political issues, classifying the former president as an “elderly person with health problems” and questioning the benefits of detention for national stability.

“Regardless of anything, is this the treatment we are going to give to an elderly ex-president with health problems? The human issue is a face one. Is it worth leaving him in prison? What will we gain from this as a country? Brazil needs pacification”, he argued.

The governor closed the topic by reiterating his loyalty and solidarity with Bolsonaro, mentioning the consequences of the attack suffered in 2018. “I will always work for dignified and respectful treatment. And we will emerge stronger”, he concluded.
