Yuri Ušakov evaluates the American plan partially positively, but requests further discussions

Russia evaluates the American peace plan on the conflict in Ukraine. Ušakov considers parts of the plan to be positive, but admits the need for further negotiations at the international level.

Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said on Wednesday that some parts of the latest version of the US peace plan to end the war in Ukraine are positive, but much remains to be discussed. TASR informs about it according to the reports of Reuters, AFP and TASS.

  • Yuri Ushakov evaluated the American peace plan for Ukraine.
  • He sees some aspects of the plan as positive, others as difficult.
  • The American envoy will visit Moscow for negotiations on the peace plan.

“We haven’t talked about it (the peace plan) with anyone yet, because the document requires thorough analysis and serious discussion. Although some aspects can be viewed positively, many of them will need to be submitted for a special discussion among experts,” Ušakov said in an interview with Pavlo Zarubin, a reporter for the state television and radio company VGTRK.

Discussions on the peace plan

According to him, Russia has not officially received the latest updated version of the American peace plan and is working only with a few unofficial ones, which, according to Ushakov, is confusing. He also said that Russian and Ukrainian intelligence officials meet sporadically in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to discuss sensitive topics, such as prisoner exchanges.

According to Ušak, European countries are “unnecessarily” interfering in the peace process. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared on Tuesday that the discussion on the security architecture in Europe would not be possible without representatives of European states and that their involvement in the ongoing negotiations on the conflict in Ukraine would be necessary later.

Agreement on the visit of the American ambassador

A Putin adviser confirmed on Wednesday morning that the Kremlin and the White House had reached a tentative agreement on next week’s visit by the US president’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and other officials to Moscow.

Sending Witkoff to a meeting with Putin in Moscow was announced by US President Donald Trump on his social network Truth Social on Tuesday. He added that together they should resolve several remaining differences in the peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner may also attend the meeting.
