PS and Enough to deceive the Portuguese. “Let’s all pay the tolls”

A25 without any toll. Three highways will be built

The motorway between Aveiro and Vilar Formoso becomes completely free, two sections of the A2 and A6 as well. Everything approved in parliament.

Parliament approved this Wednesday two PS proposals to exempt the entire A25 from tolls Costa da Prata and Beiras Litoral and Alta, and on two sections of the A6 and A2, in Alentejo.

In the case of the A25, there will be an exemption “across” the entire length of the motorway, as stipulated in the standard approved today during the vote on the State Budget for 2026 (OE2026).

Part of the A25 does not involve costs for users, but “a small section remains where tolls were charged, so it is now proposed to correct this inconsistency, eliminating tolls on the entire A25 motorway”, explained the socialist group in the initiative.

In the case of A6 e A2, the exemption only covers people residing and companies based in certain “areas of influence” of the two highways.

The exemption covers pieces of A6 between or A2/A6/A13 and Caia, and pieces of A2 between or A2/A6/A13 and Almodóvar.

The exemption works “through the use of an electronic device associated with the vehicle’s registration”, as provided for in the PS initiative.

To find out who can benefit from payment exclusion, the legislation provides that the areas of influence comprise, in the case of A6, “the territory covered by NUTS III of Alto Alentejo and Alentejo Central” and, in the case of A2, “the territory covered by NUTS III of Baixo Alentejo and Alentejo Litoral”.

New highways

Parliament approved two amendment proposals to Chega on the highway constructionin Coimbra and Castelo Branco, as well as an initiative to launch the IC6 work in Seia.

In the first half of 2026, the Government, in conjunction with Infraestruturas de Portugal and the municipalities of Viseu, Tondela, Santa Comba Dão, Penacova and Coimbra, must define and promote “tender processes aimed at urgent construction of IP3, with a highway profile, between Santa Comba Dão and Coimbra“.

The deputies also gave the ‘green light’ to a Chega measure that dictates that, “during the year 2026, the Government, in conjunction with Portugal’s Infrastructure, begins the construction of the IC31 in highway profile between Alcains/Castelo Branco and Termas de Monfortinho“.

Furthermore, a proposal was also validated to launch the international public tender for the construction of the IC6 between Tábua and Folhadosa nodein the municipality of Seia, during the next year.
