Portuguese actor and director, ex-husband of his colleague Rita Salema, was hospitalized due to colon cancer.
The actor Almeno Gonçalves died this Thursday, at 66 yearsin Lisbon, confirmed the artist’s agent to Lusa. According to the actor’s agent, Teresa Miguel Amaral, the actor died in the early hours of Thursday.
The news of the actor’s death was reported by , according to which Almeno Gonçalves died at Francisco Xavier Hospital, where he was admitted due to a cancer in the colon.
The actor took refuge at home after discovering he was ill. He died just over a month after his 66th birthday.
The Portuguese actor and director, born in Braga, soon became involved in the Braga theater movement. Founded three theater groupsincluding the Teatro Universitário do Minho.
He made his professional debut in Comuna Theatredirected by João Mota, in plays such as Má Sorte Ter Sido Puta, by John Ford, and A Tram Named Desire, by Tennessee Williams.
He worked in renowned companies such as Teatro Experimental de Cascais, Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, Teatro Aberto and Teatro da Cornucópia, where he performed authors such as Beaumarchais, Francisco de Holanda and Shakespeare.
But his face became known throughout the country in televisionwith participation in series and soap operas such as The Laughing FreaksStrawberries with Sugar, Ecuador, Flor do Mar, Santa Bárbara, Amor Amor or Vento Norte.
No cinemastarred in films such as Zona J, A Shot in the Dark, Ruth (in the role of Béla Guttmann) and Parque Mayer.
The actor had a relationship with the actress Rita Salemawith whom he had a daughter, Francisca, with whom, according to the magazine, his relationship was severed.
The actor’s wake is scheduled for Friday morning, at the Church of Miraflores, in the municipality of Oeiras, according to the agent.
