Clube Militar calls the coup plot’s arrests unfair – 11/26/2025 – Power

The Military, Naval and Air Force clubs once again spoke out critically this Wednesday (26) in relation to the coup plot led by the former president () and called it unfair.

According to the note, signed by presidents of the three clubs, ordering the arrests at the end of the process “raises serious concerns and cannot be treated as a merely protocol act”.

Retired generals Augusto Heleno and Admiral Almir Garnier were arrested this Wednesday. The former head of the Civil House was already in preventive custody.

“When a trial presents solid points of contention, such as those raised with legal precision by Minister Fux, it is essential that such questions are faced rigorously, and not ignored”, says the statement.

“The immediate arrest, in the face of a process whose conduct was subject to consistent technical criticism, conveys the feeling that essential stages of review and consideration were disregarded. This does not contribute to strengthening Justice; on the contrary, it compromises the public perception of balance, proportionality and legal security”, he continues.

The note questions the penalties applied, and states that they are “disproportionate and unbalanced” and that they “should not even exist”.

“Disagreeing with this decision does not mean attacking institutions, but reaffirming that decisions that directly affect the freedom of individuals must be taken in full compliance with due legal process, especially when there are relevant notes about possible flaws in the analysis of the facts or in the legal interpretation applied”, said the club presidents.

Last year, they said they observed with “apprehension the exposure of different military leaders”.

This Wednesday’s note is signed by General Sérgio Tavares Carneiro, president of the Military Club. He is the father of Victor Carneiro, who succeeded as director of Abin. Ramagem was also convicted in the central core of the coup plot and.

Admiral José Barreto de Mattos, president of the Naval Club, and Brigadier Marco Antonio Carballo Perez, president of the Aeronautics Club, also signed the note.
