GOLDEN GENERATION: Portugal is under-17 world champion for the first time

Portugal writes history in youth football by winning, for the first time, the title of under-17 world champion, after triumphing against Austria 1-0 in the final held in Doha.

The national team entered determined, aware of the scale of the moment, and from early on showed ambition to reach the goal. After 13 minutes, a long ball to the back of the Austrian defense isolated Duarte Cunha, who ended up having the move canceled due to a foul flagged by the referee before the ball entered the goal. Shortly afterwards, Romário Cunha, with the support of Rafael Quintas, avoided a hugely dangerous situation for the Austrians, keeping the score zero.

The decisive moment came in the 32nd minute. Duarte Cunha, in combination on the right with Mateus Mide, crossed with precision to the second post, where Anísio Cabral appeared in the right place to touch it and score the only goal of the match. The move was still analyzed by the VAR due to a suspicion of offside, but ended up being validated, confirming the Portuguese advantage.

In the second half, Austria entered with greater intensity in an attempt to reverse the result, but Portugal demonstrated maturity and emotional control, managing to manage the pace of the match.

With the final whistle, a historic feat was confirmed for Portuguese football, which now appears in the restricted group of teams winning an under-17 World Championship. An achievement that values the work carried out in training and opens up excellent prospects for the future of these young promises.
