Hope for Lucka: The story of a family that does not give up even in the most difficult moments

There are times when life stops at the least convenient moment. In the midst of ordinary days, between school, work and ordinary worries, comes news that turns everything upside down. This is exactly what happened to 18-year-old Lucca and the family of Honza K., our colleague who is used to helping everyone around him. But this time he needs help!

Advent usually includes the light we light in our windows, as well as the light we pass to each other. And sometimes it is the light of the people around us that will help one not to be alone in everything. Eighteen-year-old Lucky’s story is about just that – about bravery, the kindness of others, and that hope makes sense even when the outlook is not good.

A family that chose to stand by her

Lucie is only an eighteen-year-old girl. She is a friend of the daughter of Honza K., our colleague, who is known as hardworking, fair and always willing to help others. And now his whole family is helping again, along with him.

Lucka does not have a functional family background, so Honza and his wife accepted her into the family. They opened their home to her and provided a security that she hadn’t had in a long time. But some time ago, a diagnosis came that no one wants to hear.

Lucca’s doctors confirmed an aggressive brain tumor – glioblastoma. A disease that knocks a young person to their knees within a few weeks and requires very demanding treatment. And that’s the problem, some modern procedures that could prolong her life are not covered by the insurance company.

A collection was created that can decide the time

Honza, his daughter and the whole family continue to believe that there is a way to give Lucca more time – for life, for love, for ordinary moments that her peers take for granted. That’s why they turned to the public and started a fundraiser at , where they collect funds for treatment that would otherwise not be available.

Honza talks quietly and calmly about the whole situation, but his sadness is evident in every word.

“Our daughter’s friend is fighting a brain tumor. She is a very young girl. And when you see how she tries, how she wants to live, you can’t give up. That’s why we did a fundraiser for Donia so that she could have a chance at treatment that could prolong her life.” he says.

Advent challenge for all who want to help

At a time when we light the first candle, when we remember hope and hold loved ones together, this story has a special power. It is not about great deeds. Every gift, big or small, can bring Lucca something that is most valuable at her age, and that is time.
