Renowned socialist deputy prefers the presidential candidate supported by the Bloc. No attacks, criticism or disrespect.
The Socialist Party (PS) announced last month that António José Seguro in the 2026 presidential elections.
Because the former leader of the socialists “is the closest solution to the party’s concerns” and because “he has proven evidence” – but the PS also warned at the time that this support “does not harm the freedom that leaders, activists and supporters have always had”.
Isabel Moreira has already “gone astray”. She is the first PS deputy who, at least publicly, announces that she will vote in another person in January: in Catarina Martins.
It is a “strong political act”, but “personal”. And it is not “any attack, criticism or disrespect for a comrade”, highlights Isabel, on the radio.
Isabel Moreira remembers that the former coordinator of Bloco de Esquerda (BE) is the only candidate. Therefore, it is “fundamental” to support a woman.
“It’s positive support and it’s a strong political act. It has to do with the panorama of the candidacies that were presented and, for me, at this moment, it’s essential to support the only candidacy of a woman who openly admits herself to the left”, he explains.
Catarina Martins, continues the PS deputy, assumes its “partisan past”, welcoming the “left-wing causes, without apologizing or being afraid that, by doing so, they may jeopardize their independence. That, for me, is fundamental.”
