The Secretary of Public Security of the State of São Paulo, Guilherme Derrite (Progressistas-SP), confirmed that he will leave his position on December 1, 2025, returning to his mandate in the Chamber of Deputies.
The process had already begun in November, when Derrite took a temporary leave of absence from the department to resume his position as deputy and lead the report on the anti-faction bill that should be considered by the Senate soon.
According to sources heard by the report, governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) had the desire to have Derrite by the end of March, the deadline for disincompatibility – Derrite must try for the Senate in the 2026 elections. But Tarcísio would have assessed his performance at the head of the secretariat and in command of the PL Anti-faction as excellent and, therefore, agreed to the dismissal.
The new secretary
To the report, Derrite confirmed that he nominated two names to the governor: Osvaldo Nico Gonçalves, current executive secretary of public security and Marcello Streifinger, current secretary of penitentiary administration. The final word is from Tarcísio de Freitas.
Expectation for 2026
Guilherme Derrite’s departure will take place in an official ceremony of Rota (Rondas Ostensivas Tobias de Aguiar), one of the elite battalions of the Military Police of the State of São Paulo, on December 1st, the date on which Derrite marks three years since the governor’s invitation.
Guilherme Derrite’s return to the Chamber of Deputies is strategic due to the influence he has had in the last three years as secretary.
