General Horta Inta-A was sworn in as transition president this Thursday
The airspace in Guinea-Bissau was reopened today, reported the Civil Aviation Authority of Guinea-Bissau (AACGB), one day after the military took power and closed the borders.
In the document to which Lusa had access, commercial airlines are authorized to “carry out their regular and scheduled flights to Guinea-Bissau and vice versa”, indicated the president of the board of directors of the Civil Aviation Authority of Guinea-Bissau, following an “exceptional authorization” from the “Military High Command for the Restoration of National Security and Public Order”.
The Guinean military announced on Wednesday that it had seized power, one day before the National Elections Commission of Guinea-Bissau announced the results of the general elections, held on Sunday.
General Horta Inta-A was today sworn in as transitional president of Guinea-Bissau, in a ceremony that took place at the General Staff of the Guinean Armed Forces, one day after the military took power.
The information was disseminated on the social networks of Guinean media outlets, notably Television of Guinea-Bissau (TGB).
The day after the vote, on Monday, opposition candidate Fernando Dias claimed victory in the first round against the President of the Republic, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, who was running for a second term.
Since its independence from Portugal, Guinea-Bissau has suffered five coups d’état, 17 coup attempts and a series of government changes.
