This Thursday (27), an operation was launched to dismantle a gang involved in the production, fractionation and illegal marketing of tirzepatide, the active ingredient in the drug Mounjaro, used to treat diabetes and obesity. The name of the active ingredient appears on the box packaging.
24 search and seizure warrants are being executed in the states of , , and , in clinics, laboratories, commercial establishments and residences linked to those being investigated. Branded watches, luxury cars and aircraft have already been seized.
“The investigation identified that the group maintained a manufacturing structure in conditions incompatible with sanitary standards, carrying out packaging, labeling and distribution of the product irregularly”, according to the PF. The operation is carried out with the support of the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the Health Surveillance of the states of São Paulo, Bahia and Pernambuco.
Clandestine production
Evidence of mass production on an industrial scale, a practice not permitted within the scope of masterful manipulation authorized by current legislation, was discovered, according to the investigation.
Also according to the PF, the investigation also revealed the sale of the material through digital platforms. “Without minimum quality controls, sterility or traceability, increasing the health risk to the consumer. Furthermore, digital marketing strategies induced the public to believe that the routine production of tirzepatide would be permitted”, he said.
The actions carried out this Thursday seek to interrupt illegal activity, identify those involved in production and distribution, and collect materials for analysis and expertise of confiscated items.
