The governor (Republicans) reinforced his opposition speech to the president (PT) this Wednesday (26) in a speech given at the Swiss investment bank UBS.
Without directly mentioning the president’s name, the governor stated that “Brazil is going in the wrong direction” and has been discussing “the same person, the same ideas” for 40 years, but that “these ideas have aged over time and there has been no updating”. Therefore, he said, the country “is falling behind”.
Tarcísio is identified as the center-right’s main option for next year’s presidential elections, given the confirmation of (). However, he has been denying his willingness to run and states that he will run for re-election in .
At the event, however, the governor avoided maintaining the speech that he is out of the national dispute. He was asked if he could “do for Brazil” the work he was doing for São Paulo, in an indirect question about the possibility of being a candidate for President.
“I want to be part of a team, no matter what position I play. That’s the most important thing. I don’t necessarily need to be a protagonist. I want to help, contribute,” he replied.
“What do I want to leave for my children, for my grandchildren? I don’t want to leave this country that is there, this PT country. And I don’t think anyone wants to. Brazil is much bigger than that. Brazil can do much more than that. And we can collaborate. So, we need to collaborate on this project”, said Tarcísio.
In another quote to Lula’s party, throughout the lecture, Tarcísio argued that the right will present a development project for the country that will win the elections.
“What I see, and I’m optimistic at this point, is that this right-wing camp, which sometimes people say is disorganized, will present a project for Brazil, based on those pillars that are important, the pillar of debureaucratization, deindexation, decoupling”, he stated. “This project will win next year, have no doubt, we will free Brazil from the PT.”
On Tuesday (25), at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, in an interview given shortly after the STF (Supreme Federal Court) confirmed Bolsonaro’s arrest for leading the coup attempt, of possible names to run for President.
He had also stated that he would speak “to everyone” to transform Bolsonaro’s prison into a house arrest and vote on an amnesty bill for the former president.
