Video: Maduro drives in Caracas while ally says “everything is normal”

The dictator of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, shared on Wednesday (26) a video on his social networks in which he appears driving through the streets of Caracas, the country’s capital.

Maduro, with Dominican lawyer Miguel Meija, also known as “Miguelon”, beside him in the passenger seat, drove and pointed to different locations in Caracas, including a metro station.

The Reuters news agency was able to confirm the location of the images from subway signs, buildings and street layouts, as seen in archival and satellite images, but was unable to check the date of the images.

Mejia says that what he sees in Caracas is “normality”.

“I was with ‘Miguelon’ walking through the streets of Caracas and listening to his opinion about how Dominican medical students prefer to come to Venezuela to do their postgraduate studies due to the quality of our teaching. How wonderful to know that we are providing the world with top-notch doctors! Our doors are open!”, says the post on Maduro’s Instagram.

The United States has stepped up its operations in the Caribbean in recent months, including killing dozens of people.

The Trump government and criminal groups, which the dictator denies.
