A little-known oil does wonders for the skin. It irons out wrinkles and adds shine

Plum seed oil appears more and more often in our cosmetic bags, and this is hardly surprising. Its light, silky texture is absorbed almost immediately, without creating a greasy film, and at the same time provides the skin with long-lasting hydration. This is due to the exceptionally favorable profile of fatty acids: oleic (omega-9) and linoleic (omega-6). It is their presence that makes the skin regain softness, elasticity and natural elasticity over time, and the protective barrier is gradually rebuilt.

It is worth emphasizing that Plum oil also has one of the highest oxidative stability among vegetable oils. Thanks to this, it remains fresh for a long time, does not become rancid and does not lose its antioxidant properties. However, its action goes far beyond standard moisturizing.

The composition contains strong antioxidants, including phenols (with vanillic acid at the forefront) and β-carotene. These compounds support the skin in neutralizing free radicals and accelerate natural regenerative processes. It also contains vitamins A and C, which are known for brightening, firming and improving skin tone. Importantly, laboratory tests also indicate the anti-inflammatory effect of the oil, so it can be used by people with sensitive and reactive skin.

Plum oil retains its antioxidant properties even at 65°C. This means that it is extremely resistant to degradation and maintains its antioxidant activity for a longer time. This translates into more effective protection of the skin against oxidative stress, which is the process responsible for its faster aging.. The vanillic acid and β-carotene present in the oil additionally enhance this effect, neutralizing free radicals and supporting the skin’s natural regenerative processes.

It is worth mentioning the study from 2023 (“Valorization of Prunus Seed Oils: Fatty Acids Composition and Oxidative Stability”), which confirmed both the high antioxidant activity of plum oil and its anti-inflammatory effect. In laboratory tests, it inhibited protein denaturation in the BSA model, and its antioxidant activity was visible even at extremely low concentrations – IC₅₀ below 10 μg. Such strong properties make the oil perfect for the care of irritated, reddened skin or skin exposed to wind, smog or sudden temperature changes.

Although large clinical studies on comedogenicity are still lacking, the composition of the oil itself – especially the high olein content – and its light, quickly absorbing consistency suggest that it should not burden the pores or cause imperfections. There is also more and more talk about its role in professional care. As the latest report notes Aromatherapy Quarterly, Plum oil is increasingly being brought to beauty salons as a base for facial massage. Its natural, delicate almond-marzipan aroma has a relaxing effect and at the same time supports the skin in regeneration after exfoliation treatments.

Effects of regular use of plum oil they usually appear after four weeks. Then the skin is more moisturized and elastic, and minor skin damage heals much faster. The oil also reduces the overproduction of sebumand at the same time prevents it from drying out. For this reason, it suits both dry and combination skin, and even those that react with irritation to most cosmetics.

Combined with retinol, plum oil creates a duo that smoothes fine wrinkles, evens out skin texture and reduces redness. It can be used in several ways:

  • independently – as a night serum or an addition to the cream,
  • point by point – for dry areas or minor irritations,
  • in hair care – on hair ends or scalp when it needs relief,
  • in combination with retinol – to soothe its effects and enhance the anti-aging effect.

We usually pay for 30 ml of a product with retinol PLN 70-90and for 50 ml of pure plum oil – about PLN 50-60. The price is much lower than many luxury creams that promise similar results. In order for the oil to retain its quality for a long time, it is worth storing it in a cool, shaded place.
