One of the factors that Abel weighed in making the decision was his family’s opinion.

The coach stated this Thursday that he will continue in charge of next season. The coach’s current contract ends on December 31, but the president wants to renew it for two more seasons.

“The president wanted me to stay, I have no problem saying that I will continue at Palmeiras, period. I don’t need a signed paper. She knows who I am, I know who she is. For the five years of relations we have, I don’t need a contract to say that I will continue or not continue at Palmeiras”, Abel told Globo.

The Portuguese’s current contract with Palmeiras ends at the end of December this year, but the club presented a renewal proposal, with a new contract valid until the end of 2027. Leila spoke publicly, more than once, that all she was missing was the coach’s response to confirm her stay.

One of the factors that Abel weighed in making the decision was his family’s opinion. The fact that his eldest daughter went back to college raised doubts, but the adaptation of his youngest daughter and his wife made him more certain that it was worth staying.

“I am clear in what I am saying, I have already said that it was difficult for me to see my daughter leave, but we adapted, my family likes being here, I like Palmeiras, the people, the team I built”, he said.

Abel Ferreira has collected 10 titles for Palmeiras since his arrival in 2020. He won the Libertadores in 2020 and 2021, in 2022 and 2023, in 2020, the Supercopa do Brasil in 2023, the Recopa Sul-Americana in 2022 and the Campeonato Paulista in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

This Saturday (29), at 6 pm (Brasília time), the Portuguese seeks their 11th victory, in a duel with Flamengo, in the final, in Lima.
