In the match valid for the 36th round of the Brazilian Championship, Fluminense defeated São Paulo 6-0 this Thursday (27), at Maracanã, and mathematically guaranteed their place in the next Libertadores.
(twice), Martinelli, Nonato, John Kennedy and Kevin Serna were the scorers of Tricolor Carioca’s winning goals at home.
This is the one between the two clubs. It beat Fluzão’s 7-2 victory over Soberano in 1960, in a duel valid for the Rio-São Paulo Tournament.
The result took Fluminense to fifth place in the league, with 58 points won. The team opened a 10-point lead over eighth place, occupied by the São Paulo team itself, and can no longer be overtaken by any opponent.
The Cariocas return to the pitch next Tuesday (2), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), when they visit Grêmio in Porto Alegre. São Paulo, in turn, faces Internacional on the same date, but at 8pm, at Morumbis.
About the match
After just eight minutes, Fluminense took the lead with Uruguayan Agustín Canobbio. After a penalty was awarded due to a touch on the arm of defender Alan Franco, the 27-year-old striker crossed the ball and cheered the fans present at Maracanã.
Shortly after, at 15, Canobbio rolled the ball to full-back Samuel Xavier, who crossed to the head of striker Everaldo. He made good defense, but midfielder Martinelli took advantage of the surplus to increase the advantage on the scoreboard.
The Rio team’s third goal came at the 23-minute mark. Midfielder Nonato played with winger Kevin Serna, invaded the area and shot under goalkeeper Young.
At 42, Serna was launched at speed and, facing Young, finished for a good save by the young Tricolor Paulista archer. Afterwards, Canobbio took advantage of Alan Franco’s wrong pass and hit the opponent’s crossbar.
Even with the large difference on the scoreboard, Fluminense continued to create clear scoring opportunities. In the 19th minute, midfielder Lucho Acosta opened up on the left for Serna, who finished and forced Young to make a beautiful save.
The triumph turned into a rout after 24 minutes. Canobbio launched Serna, who rolled to center forward John Kennedy. He passed the marker and scored to make it 4-0.
In the 31st minute, Nonato found a beautiful pass for Canobbio inside the area, who crossed the ball and scored for the second time in the match. Finally, winger Yeferson Soteldo reached the baseline and played for Serna to seal the victory.
