The historic defeat suffered by São Paulo against Fluminense on Thursday night (27/11) continues to have repercussions and has already left “victims”. This Friday (28/11), Tricolor Paulista announced that Carlos Belmonte, the club’s football director, has left his position.

In addition to him, Nelson Marques Ferreira and Fernando Bracalle also leave their duties in the football department. In a statement, São Paulo informed that Rui Costa and Muricy Ramalho remain in charge of football and planning for 2026.

Check out the note below:

According to UOL, Belmonte had resigned hours after São Paulo’s defeat to Fluminense. The professional, alongside president Julio Casares, had been one of the main targets of criticism from the Tricolor fans.

Casares and Belmonte, in fact, were “broken” after divergent positions on the sale of the São Paulo base and should be on different political spectrums in next year’s election, according to UOL.

Crespo fired from São Paulo?

Despite the tough defeat to Fluminense and external pressure, there is no internal movement for the dismissal of Hernán Crespo. The São Paulo board maintains confidence in the Argentine coach and understands that the problem is not the technical command, but rather the cast quality.

The plan remains unchanged: Crespo continues to lead the team to finish the season, while the club focuses its efforts on planning a profound reformulation of the player group aiming for 2026.

São Paulo, in fact, had 15 absences for the duel, including injured and suspended players. Names like Luciano, Arboleda and Rafael, for example, did not play.

Crespo numbers in 2025

  • 30 games
  • 12 wins
  • 5 draws
  • 13 defeats
