In his second term as president of the Palm trees, Leila Pereira made it clear that she intends to remain at the helm of the club after 2027. In an interview with ESPN this Thursday (27/11), the director stated that she is willing to seek a third period in the position. To do this, however, a change in the alviverde statute would be necessary.

Leila, 61 years old, said that she has already been approached by counselors who advocate changing internal rules. Today, the statute provides for three-year terms with the right to only one re-election.

– There is a group within Palmeiras, and this is new, that is evaluating the possibility of changing the statute to allow for another mandate. Some people have already come to talk to me about this – he said, adding:

– Others say it can’t be done, that it would be a scam. But what blow would that be? If the statute is modified democratically and the members approve, there is no problem. I would like to continue… Just one more term (laughs). Who knows.

Until 2018, the club only allowed two-year terms, with one re-election. After a vote by the Council, the period was extended to three years, maintaining the limit of a new term. Leila, elected in 2021 and re-elected with a record number of votes, is guaranteed management until 2027. The idea now being discussed would be to allow up to three re-elections.

If the situation goes forward and Leila wins the new election, she will be left as president of Palmeiras until December 2030.

The president reinforced that she intends to continue working in football and praised her administrative stance.

– I want to continue in football. The sport needs serious people, who do not depend on it financially. When I need to give a Palmeiras shirt as a gift, I buy it — I don’t take it from the club. I’m an exception. Palmeiras’ management should be seen as a reference – he stated.

When asked about the possibility of holding a position at the CBF after the end of her term, Leila was categorical:

– No, no, no… CBF? No way. I don’t want. I like working at a club – he declared.

Regarding the future, she says to think “year by year” and focus on immediate goals.

– Let’s see what happens after 2027. Now, my focus is the Libertadores, which is a big dream. During my management, I have not yet won either the Libertadores or the Copa do Brasil. The rest, we conquered everything – he concluded.
