The president of , , told a delegation of Brazilian businesspeople and politicians this Thursday (27) that his country’s position is more flexible in relation to the trade agreement between and , but that adjustments are still necessary for the agreement to be finalized.
The position was expressed in a meeting organized by the former governor, which lasted around 1h30 at the headquarters of the French government, the Élysée Palace, in Paris.
Around 60 businesspeople and politicians participated, such as former president Michel Temer and senators Eduardo Gomes (PL-TO) and Efraim Filho (União-PB), who went to the city to participate in an investment forum organized by the Lide group, founded by Doria.
According to the former governor’s report, Macron said that, given the new circumstances of the global economy, he views the agreement between the blocs positively. Although he did not mention it, he implied that he was referring to US President Donald Trump’s protectionist trade policies.
France has historically been one of the most resistant countries to the Mercosur agreement, due to its powerful agricultural lobby.
The two blocs intend to finalize the agreement this year, and a change in French attitude could contribute to the outcome of the negotiations.
