Mercado Livre: Pharmacy and supermarket are ways to expand e-commerce

Even though it is the largest e-commerce platform in Latin America, Mercado Livre still sees room to expand in the country.

To the CNN Moneythe CEO of the company’s national operation, Fernando Yunes, highlights categories such as household appliances, supermarkets and pharmacy as areas that are still little explored and in which the sector can consolidate.

“We have room to move forward and gain market share in categories: yesterday Mercado Livre was the leader in household appliances, this is unprecedented in e-commerce.”

“We bought a pharmacy to start testing and we are also talking to Anvisa to see if they can modernize regulations in Brazil so we can bring pharmacies to Mercado Livre”, he reports.

According to Roberta Donato, the company’s vice president of Marketplace, consumers have been migrating to e-commerce due to the convenience of receiving purchases quickly without leaving home and the growing trust in companies in the sector.

It highlights the prior planning and study of consumer behavior that are carried out to take advantage of opportunities on dates such as Black Friday.
