Chega’s leader once again deceives his followers, this time with a video with the caption “gypsies mistreat horses”.
The publication was made this Wednesday: Andre Ventura shows a video in which you see a person whipping a horse who was already on the floor, clearly limited, unable to even move.
“I can’t even watch this whole video,” begins by writing the leader of Chega and presidential candidate, in a publication on .
Ventura continues, in the caption: “I would like to know if the left and the PAN remain silent because this is specific community? An evolved society treats animals wellremaining silent is complicity!”
The video itself reads: “Gypsies mistreat horses!”.
It should be noted that André Ventura never writes that the video was filmed in Portugal – but deceives by suggesting that “the left and the PAN are silent because this is a specific community”, and by talking about an “evolved society” that should treat animals well, giving the idea that he is referring to Portuguese society.
It wasn’t in Portugal.
The Lusa agency did a simple reverse search of some frames from the video, which revealed several articles that show that The images are not recent and were not recorded in Portugal.
E there is no sign that they are gypsies in the images.
In fact, the original video is from 2018 and was disclosed as part of the organization’s investigations and complaints PETA (the acronym in English for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) on the mistreatment of animals used to transport tourists in Egypt, especially near the Pyramids of Giza.
A version shared by André Ventura was cut to eliminate details of the location, but PETA’s photos and videos show that the scene does not correspond to Portugal, but to an Arab country.
Judging by PETA’s reports, the authorities and the Egyptian tourism industry have not yet managed to put an end to this type of exploitation of animals for tourist purposes or their mistreatment, although some operators have already started to refuse that type of services.
The correct identification of the country was also shared on the social network X (formerly Twitter) by an account critical of Chega, which considers this to be another example of “deliberate manipulation”.
“André Ventura lied again. He shared a video cut to hide where it was recorded, insinuating that violence against animals was the work of gypsies in Portugal. But the video is from Egypt and the attackers are local. Deliberate manipulation to spread hate“, reads a ” published this Thursday.
Lusa Verifica questioned Chega and its leader as to whether they knew the date, place and context of the video, as well as what elements they had to relate the images to the gypsy community, but received no answers.
