The Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, spoke out in favor of granting house arrest to the retired general and former minister Augusto Heleno, one of the high-ranking soldiers arrested in the coup plot.

Heleno, 78, was sentenced to 21 years in prison for the coup plot led by Bolsonaro after the defeat by President Lula (PT) in 2022. A retired general, he was taken to the Planalto Military Command to serve his sentence.
Upon being arrested, the former minister of the GSI (Institutional Security Office) told a medical team that he had been suffering from the illness since 2018.
