Pressure from Moscow and Washington: Serbia is increasingly in a tight spot because of its single refinery

Russian Gazprom may sell its shares in the Serbian oil company Nafta Industrija Srbije (NIS) in the next 50 days, otherwise the Serbian state will buy the shares itself, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said this week. Vučić is under massive pressure. Because if NIS doesn’t get rid of its Russian shares, not only will the refinery in Serbia be closed, but refueling at NIS gas stations in Serbia will also become practically impossible.
