Will Casares leave São Paulo?
Since the 6-0 defeat suffered by Fluminense, on Thursday (27), a group of club advisors filed a petition demanding Casares’ departure. They argue that his administration has been marked by “reckless management”, high debt and unstable sports/football planning.
On the other hand, in a press conference held this Friday (28), Casares stated that he intends to fulfill his mandate until the end, which runs until December 2026. He argued that the responsibility is collective (board, technical committee, players), and that there are still conditions for restructuring.
– I feel an integral part of this moment. The responsibility is collective. From the president, the board, the technical committee and the athletes. Secondly, I have a mandate. I think it’s normal for the opposition to do this (call for impeachment). Today I received support from the coalition. And I do have paths, because everything indicates that we will make a good financial statement. Which gives us the scope to have a 2026 like it was in the past, with competitiveness – said Casares.
According to “ESPN”, there is an internal agreement at the club: discussions about succession should only resume in March 2026, with a possible announcement of the candidate supported by Casares in June of that year.
