Zelensky announced the new names of Ukrainian negotiators, Jermak ends his post after a corruption scandal.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced on Friday that Ukraine will be represented at the next round of negotiations to end the war by Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army Andriy Hnatov, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov and representatives of the intelligence services. The British station BBC reported about it, writes TASR.
Until now, the head of the Ukrainian delegation at these negotiations was Andriy Jermak, who, however, asked Zelensky to be relieved of his post as head of the presidential office on Friday.
New team leader
As the BBC reported, it was Jermak who announced the second meeting of negotiators discussing the latest peace plan for Ukraine on Thursday. It should be held at the end of this week. It is not yet known who will lead the Ukrainian team after Jermak’s resignation.
Jermak’s resignation is apparently related to the investigation of the corruption scandal in the energy sector of Ukraine. As part of this investigation, Jermak was searched by the police on Friday.
Corruption scandal
In connection with this case, Zelenskyy informed in his video speech on Friday that he expects Prime Minister Julija Svyrydenko to present him with thoroughly vetted candidates for the posts of Minister of Justice and Energy. The previous heads of these departments were removed from their positions precisely in connection with the investigation of corruption in the company Enerhoatom, which operates nuclear power plants in Ukraine.
