An unusual end to the search, rescuers with drones and dogs were looking for the young man in the vicinity of Bystra: A surprising resolution!

The search for a missing 20-year-old man in the vicinity of Bystra in the district of Brezno, which required the intervention of the Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) with drones and dogs in addition to the police, had an unusual conclusion. He was found at a friend’s house in Banská Bystrica. The HZS informed about it on the social network on Saturday.

“On Friday (November 28), in the late evening hours, members of the Police Force asked the HZS and the Fire and Rescue Service to cooperate in the search for the missing person due to the terrain in the given area. He was intoxicated with alcohol and was supposed to move around Bystra by himself. He did not have a mobile phone with him. Emergency line 158 was contacted by friends of the wanted person, who noticed his disappearance in the afternoon. HZS deployed seven rescuers with two drones with thermal imaging and two dogs in the search,” said HZS.

Rescuers searched the area from Bystra to Krpáčovo. In the morning, the missing man told his parents that he was at a friend’s house in Banská Bystrica. As the Banská Bystrica regional police added, the reported disappearance has put dozens of people on their feet.

“The young man was spending time with his group at a cottage in Tály, from where they went to enjoy a weekend evening in the wellness area. According to the information obtained, the young man decided to stay at the hotel reception due to the consumption of an excessive amount of alcohol. When his friends returned, the young man was no longer there, they only found his mobile phone. The hours passed, the man did not answer not only to his friend, but also to his nearest and dearest. Out of concern for his life, the group contacted 158,” the police described.

As she emphasized, every notification must be checked, especially if it may be a threat to life or health. After reporting the missing person, the operations officer immediately mobilized all available forces and means to start the search operation as soon as possible. Considering the cold weather, the night terrain and the state in which he could be missing, every minute counted.

“Dozens of policemen, firefighters and mountain rescuers searched the freezing Tatra valley for several hours late at night using equipment or drones. The search team also worked with the footage from the cameras on which this person was captured,” the police added.

She urges people that if they decide to change their plans, leave family, friends or the group they spend time with, to always let them know they’re okay. This will prevent the neighbors from worrying about themselves and allow the police to concentrate their capacities where their help is really needed.
