On the day of Black Friday, in the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) took a significant step in protecting consumers by opening a cyber police station dedicated to combating fraud in online purchases. This initiative’s main objective is to ensure consumer safety during the promotion period, which traditionally sees a significant increase in purchasing volume.

The police station is made up of a team of 20 inspectors who actively monitor e-commerce platforms in search of irregular advertisements, especially those that do not have the Inmetro quality seal. Furthermore, the police station uses artificial intelligence to analyze data, identify non-conformities and request the removal of false advertisements. Companies that do not comply with established standards may face fines of up to R$1 million.

At the same time, Procon in São Paulo also intensified its surveillance against fraud, having already received 1600 complaints related to Black Friday. Top consumer complaints include delivery problems and order cancellations, as well as false discounts and deceptive sales practices. Procon released a summary of complaints, registered from the beginning of the week to the present date, emphasizing the importance of consumers checking the authenticity of websites and prioritizing those that display the Inmetro seal.
