Even if the hot summer days are just a fond memory this year, we still have the season of Christmas parties, New Year’s Eve and other opportunities to celebrate and sip refreshing drinks. We normally add ice to them, but with a simple trick we don’t have to dilute the drinks at all.
You know it yourself: originally a tasty drink full of flavor in a glass half filled with ice. If we don’t have time to drink it before the ice starts to melt, after a while all that’s left in the glass is a kind of bland liquid that we don’t even want anymore. It makes sense, disappearing ice destroys the strength of the drink. But where is it written that drinks must only be cooled with ice?
Frozen fruit is excellent for cocktails (and competitions are even held in their preparation:
Fruit instead of plain water
In order to effectively cool drinks, we can prepare frozen fruit, which will willingly take on the task of ice. For this purpose, let’s choose the right pieces that will match the individual flavors or the other refreshments you are preparing. That way, you won’t have to worry about diluting the drink – on the contrary, the fruit can enhance its taste even more if we let it melt slightly.
Freeze the berries carefully
What can we use for such purposes? There are of course berries such as blueberries, but also raspberries, strawberries, blackberries or even cranberries. Remember that the fruit must be frozen carefully for such a purpose, so that it also has an aesthetic effect. A quick freeze in one layer will be ideal. As soon as it is hard, we can transfer it into a resealable container and an interesting addition to drinks will always be at hand.
Citrus, wine and playful melon
If we were talking about small berries, we can take other fruits as well. For example, sliced citrus slices will be interesting in taste: oranges for children, limes for adult drinks and cocktails, wine balls and playfully cut cubes will also look elegant. We can also cut it into slices, from which we can use a cutter to create circles, hearts, flowers – in short, anything that our imagination allows.
A mixture always works
If you haven’t tried it yet, now is the time to do so try. This method has really huge advantages, to which we can also add the possibility of processing the last remnants of fruit that we buy, for example, for a celebration. Almost everyone knows it. There will be a few balls of wine, a couple of strawberries and four blueberries. They then wait two days in the bowl until they start to spoil and someone throws them away. Or we can put them in the freezer as soon as the guests leave. This method has really huge advantages, to which we can also add the possibility of processing the last remnants of fruit that we buy, for example, for a celebration. Sometimes even a frozen fruit mix can come in handy.
It also works with herbs
Those who still need a little extra flair for fruit lemonades can either freeze mixed leaves of basil, mint and other herbs in a similar way, or they can be finely chopped, poured with a minimum amount of water and frozen into fragrant, delicate cubes that, instead of diluting the drink, will carry the taste and aroma minute by minute. Isn’t that an excellent idea?
