Prices continue to fall — but not as much as expected. The ISP increase is 1.6 cents on gasoline and 2.4 cents on diesel.

This week the government thawed the discount on the Tax on Petroleum Products (ISP), which had been in force since 2022. The ISP on gasoline increased this Friday in 1.6 cents per liter and 2.4 cents on diesel.

According to a note cited by the Minister of State and Finance and the Minister of Environment and Energy, “in line with the recommendations of the European Commission, these measures should be progressively eliminated”.

“This ordinance partially reverses extraordinary and temporary measures, updating ISP unit rates on gasoline and diesel, promoting the indispensable gradual reversal of the temporary measures adopted within the ISP”, we also read.

According to , ACP estimated this Friday that, next Monday, gasoline could become cheaper by 3.5 cents per liter. This will not happen, due to the already an old promise from Luís Montenegro in unfreezing the discount, which was already being criticized in Brussels.

The Prime Minister had already stated that he would take advantage of a moment of falling prices to start gradually increasing the value of the ISP.
