Veterinarians confirmed the occurrence of bird flu in the swan, which had neurological clinical symptoms, difficulty breathing and apathy. It was located in Hrušovská zdrá in the cadastral territory of Hamuliakovo village (Senec district). The swan was found on November 12. The municipality informed about it on its website based on confirmation from the Regional Veterinary and Food Administration (RVPS) Senec.
The swan was euthanized and then sent for laboratory examination. The disease was confirmed on November 17. The cadastral territory of the village of Hamuliakovo and the area in the immediate vicinity of the banks of water bodies located three kilometers from the place of discovery are marked as the infected zone.
RVPS took measures based on the findings. There is a ban on gathering poultry and other birds in captivity at markets or exhibitions, a ban on releasing poultry from captivity into the wild, and also a ban on hunting wild birds and taking them from the wild, except in the case of permission from the competent authorities for special purposes.
The State Veterinary and Food Administration of the Slovak Republic has alerted breeders who have domestic poultry, ornamental birds or other susceptible animals to the deteriorating development of the situation in connection with bird flu and pseudoplague at the EU level. The European Commission asks breeders to strictly observe preventive measures in farms in an effort to prevent the introduction of diseases into farms. In Slovakia, bird flu has been confirmed in the villages of Šúrovce and Veľká Mača, as well as in the vicinity of the Orava Dam.
