A Palmeiras fan who traveled to Lima to watch the 2025 Copa Libertadores final against Flamengo died on Friday (28) in a traffic accident, Peruvian police reported.
“A Palmeiras fan died in a bus traffic accident,” the head of the Lima police region, General Felipe Monroy, told AFP.
The accident occurred in the afternoon on the peripheral highway that runs along the bay of Lima, aboard a tourist bus full of euphoric Palmeiras fans.
“The fan did not realize that the vehicle was passing under a pedestrian walkway and hit his head on the structure,” said the officer.
The victim — identified as Cauê Brunelli, 38 years old — was transferred by ambulance to a clinic in the Peruvian capital, where they “confirmed his death.”
Palmeiras “deeply” regretted Brunelli’s death in a message on the social network X and expressed solidarity with his family and friends.
More than 50 thousand Flamengo and Palmeiras fans arrived in the Peruvian capital to watch the Libertadores final, which takes place this Saturday (29), at 6 pm (Brasília time).
Peruvian authorities mobilized more than 1,600 police officers to guarantee the safety of the game in Lima, a city that is under a state of emergency due to the wave of extortion and murders committed by organized crime.
