PF opens investigation into threat note that diverted Azul flight to Brasília

This Saturday (29), the Federal Police carried out a new phase of investigations into the threat that forced an Azul flight, in August, to interrupt its route and land in Brasília. The offensive, called Operation Flight Plan, targeted an address linked to the main suspect responsible for the note found on board.

The episode took place on August 7, when the plane departed from São Luís (MA) towards Campinas (SP) carrying 170 passengers. During the journey, the crew found a handwritten message in the bathroom, indicating that there were explosives in the cargo compartment. The note led the pilot to divert the route and activate the emergency protocol.

The landing mobilized security teams, who removed the passengers and searched the entire aircraft. There were no explosives, but the alert was treated as a possible crime of threat and an attack on air transport safety.

The PF stated that the investigation remains confidential and that it is examining whether the case is related to other similar episodes recorded at Brazilian airports. The corporation says it is working to fully identify the circumstances of the false threat and possible connections between the suspect and incidents of the same type.
