The National Highway Company (NDS) will close three highway tunnels in the Žilina region during the weekend, in which they will perform emergency service. From Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon (November 30), the section of the D3 highway between Žilina Strážov – Žilina Brodno, including the Považský Chlmec tunnel, will be closed. In the same time frame, it will also take place closure of the D1 route between Hričovský Podhradí and Lietavská Lúčka, including the Žilina and Ovčiarsko tunnels. TASR was informed about this by NDS media communication.
“In the Považský Chlmec tunnel, service work will mainly focus on air conditioning and variable traffic markings. It will mainly take place in the Žilina and Ovčiarsko tunnels central control system and technology service,” they stated from the NDS media communication.
The detour route of section D3 with the Považský Chlmec tunnel will take a diversion along the I/61 road through the town of Žilina from Strážov. The route from Brodn will take a detour through the town of Žilina along road I/11. Motorists will bypass the closed D1 section with the Žilina and Ovčiarsko tunnels in the direction of Bratislava via the Žilina – Solinky intersection to the local road I/64. In the direction of Žilina, they will be redirected to the D3 highway.
