A Ukrainian delegation is moving to Moscow for further discussions on what the US president is promoting, which Moscow and he have argued could form the basis for discussion, Bloomberg reports.
The group, which includes National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and Deputy Foreign Minister Serhii Kislitsia, is expected to meet in Florida with US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The moment is critical
The visit and the discussions that are expected to have come at a very critical time both for Zelensky himself in the framework of, and for the talks about ending the war in Ukraine.
Last week, the US issued an ultimatum to Kiev to agree by Thanksgiving to the terms of a deal that appeared to favor Russia. The original text – which, according to Bloomberg leaks, had been essentially “crafted” since October by Witkov with Putin advisers Yuri Usakov and Kirill Dimitriev – was weakened by the separation of the most difficult issues, after intense diplomatic activity in Geneva and pressure from Kiev’s European allies.
Witkov is to lead a US delegation for talks in Russia next week.
European countries have been shut out of many details of the talks and only participate in bilateral discussions where their input is considered absolutely necessary at this stage, such as defining security guarantees with the US.
