The final stretch of the 2025 Formula 1 season arrives at the Qatar GP with the real possibility of the world champion being defined this Sunday (30). With only two stages remaining on the calendar, Qatar and Abu Dhabi, the combination of results between the three title contenders could end the dispute early.
The joint performances of Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen, who arrive separated by just a few points after a year marked by balance and alternation in leadership, will culminate in the most important result of the season.
Norris, Piastri and Verstappen scores in the Drivers’ World Championship
| # | Pilot | Team | Points |
| 1 | Lando Norris | McLaren | 396 |
| 2 | Oscar Piastri | McLaren | 374 |
| 3 | Max Verstappen | Red Bull | 371 |

Scenarios for early definition
A decision could end in Qatar if Lando Norris scores enough points to stay out of reach of his two closest rivals.
The combinations range from a victory scenario, which automatically guarantees the title to Norris, to more specific situations, such as if the Briton finishes between 2nd and 8th, as long as his opponents also finish below certain positions. If the trio finishes close to each other, or if Piastri and Verstappen manage to minimize the difference, the decision will be postponed.
When does the title decision not happen in Qatar?
Even with several early title possibilities, there is a central point: if Norris finishes in 9th place or below, the fight automatically goes to Abu Dhabi, regardless of the results of the other drivers. Likewise, any stronger performance from Piastri or Verstappen keeps the race open.
Furthermore, if none of the mathematical scenarios mentioned above are confirmed, the dispute will also go to the final stage, scheduled for next Sunday, December 7th.
