Cyprus is preparing for the Presidency: a European Parliament delegation will visit it

EP President Roberta Metsolová and her delegation are preparing Cyprus for the presidency of the EU Council from January 1. During the two-day visit, there will be meetings with local leaders.

The President of the European Parliament (EP) Roberta Metsolová and leaders of political groups will visit Nicosia on Monday on the occasion of Cyprus’ preparations for the six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union. TASR informs about it according to the press release of the EP.

During the two-day visit, the European Parliament delegation will meet with Cypriot President Nikos Christodulidis, members of the Council of Ministers, Speaker of the Parliament Annita Demetriova and representatives of political parties. They will discuss the priorities of the six-month presidency, which Cyprus will take over on January 1.

“Cyprus is taking the helm of the EU at a time of rapid changes and growing expectations of our citizens. From reducing bureaucracy for businesses to expanding and finding solutions to migration challenges, Europe is on the move and Cyprus will lead the process. I look forward to working with President Christodulidis and the Cyprus Presidency,” Metsolová said before the visit. The Presidency of the Council of the EU rotates between member states every six months. During this six-month period, the presiding country leads meetings at all levels of the Council of the EU and helps to ensure continuity of work in this institution. Cyprus will take over the presidency from Denmark and hand it over to Ireland in July 2026.
