Scorer of the goal that secured the Libertadores title, defender Danilo revealed that he entered the field in the final against Palmeiras, this Saturday, in Lima, experiencing family mourning. He dedicated the achievement to his father. “My father was coming with my mother and my brothers to the game. His sister, my aunt, passed away, and he had to go back,” he told TV Globo.

A Flamengo fan since childhood, Danilo said that his father watched the match in Bicas, his hometown in Minas Gerais. “I want to dedicate this victory to my entire family and especially to him,” he said.

The defender also commented on his relationship with Flamengo and his decision to return to Brazil after years in Europe. “It’s no secret that I’m a Flamengo fan. After everything I experienced abroad, I wanted to come back and play here”, said the defender, who has played for Santos, Porto, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Juventus. Danilo also revealed that he has been dealing with a physical problem since May. “I’ve had edema since the first game against Palmeiras in the Brazilian Championship,” he said.

At 34 years old, he said he always dreamed of a long career, but didn’t imagine getting this far. In the locker room, before the final, he made a request to his teammates: “Each one has a sacrifice that no one sees. I asked us to support each other in this.” When asked what he would say to the child Danilo, he replied: “Allow yourself to dream. If you can dream, you can achieve it.”
