Danilo’s goal, with a header, in the second half, decrees the red-black title in Lima

This Saturday (29), in Lima, Flamengo became the first Brazilian club to win four-times Copa Libertadores champions. The 1-0 victory over Palmeiras, with a header from Danilo, in the 22nd minute of the second half, crowned a decade of red and black protagonism on the continent and ended a sequence of unfavorable decisions against the rival from São Paulo.
The final pitted the two main clubs in the country face to face in recent years — and carried the weight of the rivalry fueled on and off the field. Since 2021, it was the fourth decision between the teams, including Libertadores and Supercopas. The most notable episode of this period was precisely the red-black defeat in the continental final in Montevideo, when a mistake by Andreas Pereira defined the alviverde title.
This time, the script was different. Flamengo was looking for a revenge and treated the decision as a chance to rebalance recent history. Filipe Luís’ team overcame important absences, such as Pedro, and adjusted the offensive system to control the game in Lima. The defense also responded well to the previous day’s doubts, ensuring security in the most critical moments.
The title returns the club to the top of the continent and opens a new era of achievements after the 2019 and 2022 championships. For the red and black fans, the achievement also represents the end of the “parish” feeling in finals against the São Paulo rival.
On the Palmeiras side, the feeling was one of frustration. In search of their fourth continental title, Abel Ferreira’s team dealt with important absences — such as Weverton and Paulinho — and were unable to repeat the dominance of previous decisions. The match also marked Andreas Pereira’s reunion with his former club, now wearing the alviverde shirt, but without the redemptive outcome he expected.
