The parentage of Adela Vincze and Viktor Vincze has been attracting a lot of public interest since it became known that they had adopted their son Maxík. Although the prominent couple do not show the face of the three-year-old boy on the Internet, they talk very openly about his upbringing. It is therefore no secret that they decided to have a bilingual household. Adela speaks with her son in Slovak and Viktor in English.
This approach prompted a lot of questions from fans, which flooded the well-known couple on social networks. Therefore, the former presenter of Markíza responded to a topic that is constantly repeated. “One of the most frequent questions I get as a bilingual parent is whether Maxík and I only speak English one hundred percent. I do with Maxík, he doesn’t with me. But it is expected and normal. Especially if he sees that daddy usually communicates with others in Slovak,” said Viktor on the social network.
As proof, he published a video in which he pointed out one detail. Maxík suddenly asked something in Slovak in the middle of an English conversation because, according to his father, he thought of it faster. “Or sometimes he just doesn’t feel like it, so he almost automatically translates Slovak sentences into English, in which they don’t necessarily make sense – see in the video, when the traffic light is red, we have to stand, that is, according to him, “stand”. he noted.
You can watch the video at the beginning of the article. Their conversation about the ice rink will especially lift your spirits. In the following lines, we bring you its transcription and Slovak translation. “What is that?” asked Maxík. “Oh, I think they’re building an ice rink.” Viktor explained to him.
“Can I go on the ice by myself? (Can I go on the ice by myself?)” the boy was interested, to which his father replied that if he is not afraid, then he can go. Viktor added that you don’t walk on the ice in shoes, which surprised Maxík. “Will my legs be bare?” the kindergarten teacher suddenly asked in Slovak. We didn’t find out the answer in the video.
Viktor doesn’t bother switching between languages. “The key is that he has enough exposure to English. Regardless of whether you are worse or better at a foreign language, whether you manage it 100% or only 50%. If your child only learns to understand, he is already halfway to success. At our house, Adelka sometimes joins the English so that we are all on the same page,” he revealed how it works for them.
Vincze emphasized that it is also beneficial for an adult, because he has to learn new words and connections. He knows this from his own experience. “From heavy construction mechanisms, through common household items, to the set of Avengers (which we never let him see otherwise and he only knows them from the print of the sweatshirt) and the way they came to be. By the way, how do you say a concrete mixer, a hoe or a flour sifter? How about a lion’s mane or a roll? And what type of radiation turned Professor Bruce Banner into the Green Hulk, do you know?” he asked followers on Instagram.
