President makes statement this Sunday to confirm exemption from income tax up to R$5,000

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) recorded a speech that will air on national radio and television this Sunday (30), at 8:30 pm. The speech, lasting just over six minutes, will have as its central axis, one of the main promises made by the PT member during the 2022 campaign.

The measure, approved this week, will come into effect from January 2026 and should benefit more than 15 million taxpayers, according to estimates by the economic team.

The government claims that the new exemption range was only possible after the taxation of high fortunes, presented as a way of correcting distortions in the distribution of the tax burden.

In addition to highlighting the impact of the new income policy, which also provides discounts for those earning up to R$7,350, Lula must mention the resumption of social programs and recent economic indicators.

The government points out that the country is currently recording growth above the regional average.

Lula will continue in Brasília this weekend, without public commitments. Next week’s agenda includes a trip to the Northeast, with the inauguration of dams in Pernambuco and the delivery of the first National Teaching Cards and equipment from the Mais Professores Program, in Ceará.
