O PSOL (Socialism and Freedom Party) announced, on Saturday (29), the affiliation of Manuela d’Ávila. According to the caption, the former federal deputy should run for a seat in the Senate for Rio Grande do Sul in the 2026 elections.
In a post on social media, Manuela — — said he found in PSOL a “deep commitment to structural changes and the brilliance of new generations”.
“I want great transformations. I cannot accept that this reality of inequality is the final destiny of humanity. I feel that I am part of this centuries-old current that pushes history towards a fairer world. That is why I decided to join the PSOL”, wrote the former parliamentarian.
“The Brazilian left is diverse — and this diversity is a strength. The challenge is to combine it with the necessary unity in the face of fascism. From PSOL, I will be alongside everyone who faces the ultra-right and defends our people and our country”, added Manuela.
Research by the Real Time Big Data institute released last Tuesday (25) points out that Manuela and the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSD)are the favorites for a seat in the Senate in 2026 ().
In next year’s election, two senators will be elected per federative unit. As a result, 54 of the 81 seats in the Legislative House will be up for grabs.
The launch of Manuela’s pre-candidacy for the Senate is scheduled for December 9th.
Who is Manuela d’Ávila
Manuela Pinto Vieira d’Ávila, 44 years old, is a journalist and writer. She participated in the student movement and, at the age of 23, in 2004, she was elected the youngest councilor in the history of Porto Alegre.
In the 2006 elections, she was elected federal deputy for the first time and was reappointed to the position in 2010.
Four years later, she became state deputy for Rio Grande do Sul, a role she held for a single term. In 2018, she was a candidate for vice president on the ticket headed by Fernando Haddad (PT).
Furthermore, Manuela d’Ávila unsuccessfully ran for Mayor of Porto Alegre on three occasions: 2008, 2012 and 2020.
