The state government removed 1,800 tons of physical obstacles from public roads during the first week of Operation “Barricade Zero”. The initiative, which began on Monday (25), mobilizes security forces and infrastructure teams to clear streets and resume circulation in blocked areas.

The actions were mainly concentrated in the North Zone of the capital, with a focus on Cidade Alta and adjacent communities, also extending to Baixada Fluminense and São Gonçalo. Municipalities such as Nova Iguaçu, Japeri, Duque de Caxias and Queimados received interventions to remove debris, concrete and iron used in obstructions.

The task force is coordinated by the Institutional Security Office and is part of the , the and the Infrastructure Secretariat. To carry out the cleanup, the state employs 50 demolition kits, which include backhoes, hydraulic breakers and dump trucks. The goal set by the government is to remove more than 13,000 mapped blocking points.

In addition to removing the material, planning foresees the immediate recovery of the road network. In locations such as Cidade de Deus, Campinho and Fubá, paving and maintenance services began shortly after the streets were opened. In Cidade Alta, teams also removed eight burned-out vehicles that were obstructing traffic.

During the execution of the work, reactions occurred at some points, which led to the preventive closure of Avenida Brasil for approximately one hour on Thursday (27). There were records of arrests in Cordovil and Duque de Caxias. State authorities reported that policing and infrastructure works will be maintained to prevent the barriers from being replaced.
