Venezuela stated that it “absolutely repudiates” the publication made by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, about the country’s airspace. Earlier this Saturday, Trump stated on Truth Social that the space “above and around Venezuela” should be considered “totally closed”, amid the increase in the American military presence in the Caribbean.
In the text, sent by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil Pinto, via Telegram, Caracas states that Trump’s statements represent “a new extravagant, illegal and unjustified aggression” and that they seek to affect the sovereignty of national airspace, territorial integrity and aeronautical safety. The Venezuelan government accuses Washington of trying to impose “illegitimate jurisdiction” over its territory and claims that the US president’s words reveal “colonialist intentions over our region of Latin America and the Caribbean”.
Venezuela further maintains that the American announcement violates basic principles of international law and constitutes “an explicit threat to use force”. The statement highlights that no country has the authority to interfere in the use of Venezuelan airspace. “Venezuela will not accept orders, threats or interference from any foreign power.”

Caracas also denounces that the US unilaterally suspended repatriation flights for Venezuelan migrants, which had been taking place weekly. The government says it will continue to exercise “full sovereignty” over its territory and calls on the international community to reject what it called an “immoral” act and contrary to regional peace.
