Zelensky considers agreement to end war with Russia 'feasible' in the coming days

The President of Ukraine expressed optimism about the possibility of reaching an agreement to end the war with Russia in the coming days, highlighting the United States’ constructive approach.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said this Saturday that he considers it “feasible” to reach “in the next few days” an agreement for a “dignified end” of the .

“The Americans are showing a constructive approach and it is possible that in the coming days steps will be taken to determine how to bring the war to a dignified end,” said Zelensky, in his usual speech at the end of each day.

Zelensky highlighted that the Ukrainian delegation for the negotiations is already in the United States to “continue the dialogue based on the Geneva points”, in reference to the discussions that took place last weekend in the Swiss city and which also involved Kiev’s European allies.

“Diplomacy remains active (…). The Ukrainian delegation has the necessary guidelines and I hope that the representatives will work in accordance with clear Ukrainian priorities,” he said.

A United States government official, cited by the France-Presse (AFP) news agency, meanwhile indicated that the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will meet on Sunday with the Ukrainian delegation in Florida.

They will be accompanied by Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law.

These contacts come after Donald Trump presented, in recent days, a plan to end the war between Ukraine and Russia.

Washington’s initial proposal, made up of 28 points, provided for the ceding of territories to Russia, the reduction of Ukrainian army personnel and the enshrinement of Ukrainian neutrality in its Constitution, among other aspects that are rejected by Kiev.

In the same speech, Zelensky also referred to last night’s “large-scale” Russian attack with drones and missiles that targeted Ukrainian electrical infrastructure.

“Russia does not change its tactics and continues to try to inflict this type of pain on Ukraine before winter”, lamented the Ukrainian head of state.

However, Zelensky stressed, the country is reacting and there are interceptions.

“The important thing is that we are responding (…). 19 missiles were shot down, including ballistic ones. Almost 560 drones were also neutralized, including almost 300 Shahed (Iranian-made). Unfortunately, not all of them were shot down. Working to reinforce anti-aircraft defenses is priority number one”, he stressed.

In this sense, the Ukrainian leader once again asked for the collaboration of allies, because “no country can face this alone”.

The objective is, he continued, “to increase the quality of our anti-aircraft defense” and, for this, “we count on the support of our partners”.

The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24, 2022, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since the Second World War (1939-1945).
